I think that you are thinking of RUDY with Sean Astin. This film teaches us that when we have a goal that we set our mind to, we should not let anyone interfere or tell us that we cannot do it. Rudy was constantly ridiculed by his family when he was younger and in high school, was told by his teachers that he did not have the grades to attend Notre Dame or any high profile school. Not being able to go on that field trip to the campus caused him to re-evaluate things and he saw that he had to step it up and get REAL in order to make his dream come true.

He got into Notre Dame when he was a Junior and didn't actually make it to the football team until his senior year. So basically he waited his WHOLE LIFE to achieve that goal. As for the playing in the game part.... You are not officially recorded as a team member unless you make a play so although in uniform it didn't count. He was only on the field for about two minutes, maybe less. The coach only let him go on the field cause the defense was able to clear the ball and score enough points that it wouldn't really make or break the team if he took the field. It also helped that the entire stadium was shouting this name. GREAT MOVIE... I have it.
